Sui Southern Gas Company has announced a special gas supply schedule for domestic and commercial consumers during the three days of Eid ul Adha.

The company said it would provide longer gas supply hours to support cooking and Eid-related activities across Sindh and Balochistan.

According to SSGC, gas supply on the eve of Eid, May 26, will remain available until 12am.

On the first and second days of Eid, May 27 and May 28, consumers will receive uninterrupted gas supply from 7:30am until midnight.

However, on the third day of Eid, May 29, gas supply will remain available only until 10pm.

SSGC added that it would restore the regular load management schedule from May 30.

“The gas supply schedule will revert to normal timings from May 30, with gas available only during designated meal hours,” the company said in its statement.

The announcement comes as millions of Pakistanis prepare for Eid gatherings, animal sacrifice and large-scale cooking activities.

Eid demand puts pressure on gas system

Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting of the Zilhaj moon on May 17, officially announcing May 27 as the first day of Eid ul Adha in Pakistan.

Following the moon sighting announcement, the federal government declared a three-day public holiday for Eid celebrations.

“The prime minister has been pleased to declare May 26, 27 and 28, 2026, as public holidays on the occasion of Eid ul Adha,” a Cabinet Division notification stated.

Gas demand usually rises sharply during Eid ul Adha because households use gas extensively for cooking meat and preparing meals for guests.

Consumers in Karachi and several other cities often report low gas pressure during winter months and major religious occasions.

SSGC supplies natural gas to Sindh and Balochistan, including Karachi, Hyderabad and Quetta.

Pakistan’s energy sector continues facing pressure from declining domestic gas reserves and rising LNG import costs.

Authorities have increasingly relied on gas load management policies to balance demand and supply during peak consumption periods.

Eid ul Adha preparations intensify nationwide

Eid ul Adha commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah before the sacrifice was replaced with a ram.

Muslims across Pakistan celebrate the occasion with Eid prayers, family gatherings and the ritual sacrifice of livestock.

Families also distribute meat among relatives, friends and underprivileged communities.

Meanwhile, local administrations across Pakistan have accelerated preparations for the holiday season.

Authorities have established temporary cattle markets and introduced sanitation and traffic management plans in major cities.

Utility companies also face pressure to maintain uninterrupted services during the Eid holidays.

SSGC officials said the revised timings aim to facilitate consumers while maintaining stability in the gas distribution system.
