Ten-year-old fashion designer Max Alexander now holds four Guinness World Records after launching his first fabric collection and completing a sewing-machine challenge. The Los Angeles designer celebrated two new titles at Mood Fabrics’ New York flagship on September 14. His achievements include becoming the youngest person to release a fabric or textile line. He also set the record for the fastest time to thread an automatic sewing machine, completing the task in 10.16 seconds. Guinness adjudicator Michael Empric confirmed the achievement and presented a certificate as the crowd applauded. The Mood × Max Alexander collection features 15 fabrics, combining his signature prints with materials chosen for their environmental credentials. These include BCI Cotton, European Flax linen, EcoVero viscose and recycled polyester faux fur. Max personally selected the textiles and demonstrated his draping skills during the launch. Guests included New York Fashion Week creator Fern Mallis, alongside family, friends and members of the media.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Mood Fabrics | Fabric & Sewing (@moodfabrics)   “At the core of this collection is the idea that one small choice can make a big difference,” he said in a statement. “Sustainability doesn’t have to mean being perfect. It can be about the tiny choices we make every day and changing little habits that add up to something much bigger.” The latest milestones follow his record-setting appearance at Paris Fashion Week in March. At 10, he became its youngest runway-show designer, presenting a women’s collection at the Palais Garnier. That collection also reflected his interest in reusing materials and reducing waste. “90 per cent [of the pieces were] made from sustainable materials and inspired by flowers! I used deadstock, surplus, recycled bags and biodegradable fabrics,” Max said at the time. He added that the collection took “about half a year to complete”. Reuters reported that the Paris presentation featured 15 looks. His wider work has included unconventional materials such as coffee bean sacks, turning discarded items into clothing. Max began sewing and designing at four, after telling his parents he wanted to become a dressmaker. His mother initially helped by making him a cardboard dress form. In November 2023, aged seven, he earned his first Guinness recognition as the youngest person to design a runway show. By his early record-setting years, he had created more than 100 designs, staged shows and sold pieces internationally. His confidence also emerged in an interview with People, when he playfully suggested a connection to Gucci founder Guccio Gucci. Asked about having been the designer in a past life, he replied: “I actually was.” TIME included Max in its 2026 TIME100 Creators list. His celebrity clients include Sharon Stone and Debra Messing. The new fabric collection is available through Mood Fabrics’ website. The company also plans to stock it at its US retail locations.
