Dates are a popular natural alternative to refined sweets. Consumers add them to protein bars, smoothies, desserts and pre-workout snacks. Monica Kelly, a registered dietitian at Montefiore Health System, explained their appeal. Kelly said this drying “extends their shelf life.” It also concentrates natural sugars and creates the familiar caramel-like flavor. Fiber, Minerals and Antioxidants Support Health One cup of dates provides about six grams of dietary fiber. Kelly said fiber “supports digestion, promotes regularity and helps keep you feeling full for longer.” Fiber also slows sugar absorption into the bloodstream. This can provide steadier energy than highly processed snacks. Dates supply potassium and magnesium. King said these minerals “support muscle and nerve function, hydration and cardiovascular health by regulating blood pressure.” Dates contain vitamin B6 and vitamin K. Dates also provide antioxidant compounds called polyphenols. Kelly said the compounds may help “in reducing inflammation and protecting the body from cell damage, thereby preventing chronic diseases and contributing to improved heart health.” Athletes often eat dates for quick energy. King said, “They provide quick energy without many additives or artificial ingredients, making them a convenient pre-workout snack.” Their sweetness can replace refined sugar in many recipes. Daily Intake Requires Portion Control Most healthy people can include dates in a daily diet. However, King warned that “portion size matters.” He described dates as “calorie-dense and naturally high in sugar.” One cup of pitted, chopped dates contains more than 400 calories. It also carries nearly 95 grams of natural sugar. Their fiber gives them a low-to-moderate glycemic index. Large portions can still raise blood sugar because the total sugar quickly adds up. King said “people with diabetes or blood sugar regulation challenges should be mindful of how many they consume at once.” Kelly said people with kidney disease “may also need to exercise caution due to their high potassium content.” People taking medicines that affect potassium should seek medical advice. Dates also create a dental concern because they stick to teeth. Kelly said they “can also contribute to cavities if dental hygiene isn’t well maintained.” Overall, King said dates “fit well into wellness-focused lifestyles.” He added, “They are minimally processed, portable and provide quick energy along with fiber and minerals.”

Atlas Honda used a promotional video to showcase three colour treatments. The red version receives revised decals on the fuel tank and side covers. The black model carries sportier stripe accents. Meanwhile, the blue version features updated multi-tone graphics. The company has not added disc brakes, alloy wheels, electric start or a redesigned frame. The body shape, headlamp mask, tail assembly and seating posture also remain identical to the outgoing model. Atlas Honda has followed this formula with several annual CD 70 and CD 70 Dream updates. New stickers often provide the main visual difference. Pakistani riders commonly describe this strategy as the “naya sticker” routine. Same Engine and Commuter-Focused Hardware The refreshed Honda CD 70 Dream keeps its 72cc, four-stroke OHC air-cooled engine. It uses a four-speed constant-mesh transmission and a kick-start system. New US Visa Bond Targets 50 Countries: Is Pakistan on the List?
The United States will make its visa bond programme permanent from August 3, allowing consular officers to demand up to $20,000 from certain business and tourist visa applicants. The State Department rule covers nationals of 50 countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. Thirty listed countries are in Africa. It applies only to B-1 and B-2 visas for temporary business or tourism travel. New Rule Raises Maximum Bond The programme began as a 12-month pilot in August 2025. Officers could set bonds at $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000. The permanent rule removes the $5,000 option. Officers may now require $10,000, $15,000 or $20,000 after considering each applicant’s circumstances. “The 2025 visa bond pilot, which provided a framework for the Department of State, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of the Treasury to assess the feasibility of administering a visa bond program, has provided sufficient data to suggest that a visa bond program is an effective tool for enforcing compliance among bonded visa holders.” Applicants must pay electronically through the US Treasury’s authorised platform after a consular officer gives instructions. A third party may provide the money, but payment does not guarantee approval. Authorities may forfeit it after a serious breach. Some reports suggested broader effects on students and workers. US Cites Sharp Fall in Overstays US officials say the programme aims to reduce overstays and improve cooperation on identity checks, information sharing and travel-document security. The 50 countries recorded 45,488 overstays in fiscal year 2024, according to the notice. During the pilot’s first 10 months, covered travellers recorded fewer than 50. About 20,000 applications required a bond, far above the government’s initial estimate of 2,000. Close to half paid, temporarily placing about $115 million with the government. Visa issuance from listed countries fell 83% compared with the same 10-month period a year earlier. Nearly half of affected applicants chose not to pay.
