The latest incident occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, where gunfire near a security checkpoint forced Trump to be evacuated by the Secret Service, adding to what officials describe as a long and evolving timeline of threats.

Timeline of Key Assassination Attempts and Threats

Trump’s exposure to assassination risks dates back to his 2016 presidential campaign. One of the earliest incidents occurred in June 2016, when a man attempted to grab a police officer’s weapon at a rally in Las Vegas with the intent to shoot Trump.
In 2017, another plot emerged when a man stole a forklift in North Dakota and attempted to ram the presidential motorcade, later admitting he intended to kill Trump. The same year, authorities in the Philippines foiled a suspected militant plot targeting Trump during an international summit.
In 2018, US security agencies intercepted envelopes containing ricin, a deadly toxin, that had been mailed to Trump and other government offices.
The most serious confirmed assassination attempt came in July 2024, when a gunman opened fire at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was struck in the ear, one attendee was killed, and others were injured before the attacker was shot dead by security forces.
