Samsung has launched an unusual marketing campaign ahead of its next Galaxy Z Fold 8 Unpacked event after wiping the Instagram grids of its main mobile accounts, replacing years of posts with just a handful of cryptic teasers that hint at a major redesign for its next foldable smartphone.
The company’s @SamsungMobile and @SamsungMobileUSA Instagram accounts briefly displayed empty grids before six new posts appeared. Together, they formed the message, “New shape. New joy.” The move immediately fueled speculation that Samsung is preparing to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with a significantly different design.
Cryptic teasers hint at a wider foldable
Instead of revealing specifications or launch details, Samsung chose a series of short visual puzzles. The teaser videos show familiar objects transformed into wider shapes. Their captions include: “A sweet new shape that cuts to what matters and feels just right,” “A whole new slice,” and “A sweet reveal.”
Another teaser titled “Bold Stroke. New Shape” features purple, pink and gold splashes before revealing artwork that closely resembles previously leaked Galaxy Z Fold 8 wallpaper featuring a prominent number “8.” Although Samsung has not officially confirmed the device’s name, the campaign strongly points toward its next generation foldable.
The visuals also suggest Samsung is moving away from the tall, narrow design seen on previous Fold models. Instead, the company appears to be adopting a shorter and wider form factor that many users have requested for years.
Leaks point to two Fold models
Industry leaks suggest Samsung could introduce two premium book style foldables. Reports indicate the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will continue Samsung’s traditional design while focusing on premium hardware. It could measure around 4.1mm when unfolded, weigh about 215 grams and include a 5,000mAh battery with 45W charging.
Meanwhile, the rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide appears designed to improve everyday usability. Leaks point to a lighter 201 gram body, a 4,800mAh battery and a redesigned 5.4 inch cover display with a more conventional 4:3 aspect ratio. Inside, users could get a wider 7.6 inch display that reduces black bars during video playback and improves multitasking.
Reports also suggest the two models may use different ultra thin glass layers. The Wide version could feature a thicker 60μm layer, compared with 45μm on the Ultra. That change may improve durability and reduce the visibility of the display crease, although Samsung has not confirmed those details.
Samsung changes its launch strategy
Samsung’s teaser campaign marks a clear shift from its traditional product launches. Rather than releasing straightforward promotional videos, the company has encouraged fans to decode visual clues before the official announcement.
The strategy has generated widespread discussion across social media while keeping the spotlight on the Fold’s expected redesign. Samsung has not announced an official launch date. However, several industry reports continue to point to Galaxy Unpacked taking place on July 22, where the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 are widely expected to debut.
