On National Book Lovers Day, luxury fashion is putting literature on display, with books appearing not only in campaigns and runway concepts but also as handbags, charms and collectible accessories.
Across 2026, brands including Chanel, Dior and Coach have pushed reading culture into fashion’s visual language. The trend mixes nostalgia, craftsmanship and the growing appeal of analogue experiences at a time when consumers spend much of their lives on screens.

Chanel, Coach Turn Stories Into Fashion
Chanel has offered two of the year’s clearest examples. Matthieu Blazy’s Spring-Summer 2026 Haute Couture show in January transformed the Grand Palais into a surreal woodland filled with giant mushrooms and dreamlike flora.
Later, Chanel’s Fall-Winter 2026 couture presentation drew more directly from a century-old fairy-tale book found in Gabrielle Chanel’s library. The house turned literary imagery into towering beanstalks, flowers and storybook references.

Coach has made the connection even more literal. Its “Explore Your Story” campaign with Penguin Random House introduced miniature, fully readable books that double as bag charms. Titles include Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and Celeste Ng’s Little Fires Everywhere.
Coach describes the concept simply as “A story worth wearing.” Its Sense and Sensibility charm contains the complete 448-page text and uses a glovetanned leather spine.

Miu Miu has also helped connect luxury fashion with reading through its Summer Reads project. The initiative brought pop-up libraries to major cities and offered works by women writers, including Jane Austen’s Persuasion, alongside books by Alba de Céspedes and Sibilla Aleramo. The brand highlighted their “brave and powerfully influential” status as female creators.
Luxury Books Move Beyond the Bookshelf
The literary trend now extends into some of fashion’s most expensive accessories. Dior’s current Book Cover Collection includes embroidered Book Totes inspired by printed covers.
Olympia Le-Tan has built an identity around hand-embroidered book clutches. Its designs turn famous covers, including The Great Gatsby, into structured collectible bags using embroidery, fabric and metal detailing. Current retail listings can exceed $1,400.

Prada’s Cahier family also draws on antique book bindings, with metal corners, leather construction and clasp-like details.
The trend reaches the reading desk too. Smythson continues to sell luxury leather journals, diaries and stationery. Fashion reports have also highlighted book weights and gold-gilded paper products priced from around 50,000.

The wider shift suggests books are becoming a visible marker of taste rather than a private object carried inside a bag. Fashion has long borrowed from art, film and music. In 2026, literature is increasingly joining that list.
On National Book Lovers Day, the message from luxury labels is clear: the reading list itself has become part of the look.
